As part of the Mechanical Engineering courses at Lehigh, we take ME240 Manufacturing. The final project for the course is to design and injection mold a Hot Wheels style toy car based on our client's requests. In this course, the clients are middle school students from Broughal Middle School just down the street.
Our student's only request was "a taxi, you know what it looks like". We took his initial "concept" and decided to style our taxi cab after the old Marathon Checker Cabs.
Models of the taxi and resulting molds were created in Solidworks; Tool Paths in NX; CNC Machined in house on HAAS Machines, and Injection Molded in our Student Shop.
